Waste less, do more

Everything we do makes a difference, no matter how big or small. Waste production causes all kinds of pollution. Wasting less makes us more conscious consumers, helps reduce pollution and encourages businesses to implement more sustainable strategies.

Wasting less means avoiding waste in the first place, because the best type of waste is the one you don’t produce !

Pays de Gex Agglo has put solutions in place to reduce the amount of waste we produce and help turn waste into an investment. These solutions are part of the Pays de Gex’s Local Project for the Prevention of Household Waste and Refuse 2021-2026.

These are concrete solutions to waste less in the Pays de Gex.

• Say no to anything you don’t need: put a “no junk mail” sticker on your door or letterbox. You can pick one up from your Town Hall or Pays de Gex Agglo.

• Bulk buy from local producers to reduce packaging (3  petits fermiers, AMAP, farm shops etc.).
• Stop buying disposables and switch to reusables : handkerchiefs, make-up wipes, unpaper towels, facecloths etc.
• Use apps like Too Good to Go to pick up surplus food from local shops and reduce food waste.
• Take part in repairs workshops at local facilities and repair your items instead of buying new (Ressourcerie du Pays de Gex, Versonnex Town Halls).
• Drop off clothes, shoes and textiles you no longer need at clothes bins.
• Drink tap water to reduce how many plastic bottles of water you buy. Tap water is constantly monitored by the local water board with very high quality standards.
• Use bags for life or SIVALOR bags to do your shopping (available from your Town Hall or Pays de Gex Agglo).
• Host eco-friendly events. Visit the Ask a Question section to book equipment.
