DUMPING WASTE NEXT TO RECYCLING BINS : LET’S STOP IT TOGETHER

Seeing or smelling bags and rubbish next to recycling bins is a real problem, whether it’s from time to time or all the time. Doing your civic duty at all times helps prevent the pollution that affects all of us in the Pays de Gex.

The council and service providers feel responsible too and we’re working hard to address collection issues.

But we all need to do our civic duty to help prevent these problems that affect all of us in Pays de Gex.

There are solutions

Each and every one of us is responsible for our actions when we dispose of our waste. There are simple and practical solutions to help clean up the Pays de Gex.

  • If you don’t have a fob to open the recycling bin, don’t leave your bags next to it. Call +33 (0)4 50 40 95 00 or complete the online form to get fobs for your household
  • Only use bags up to 40 litres to dispose of your household waste because bigger bags don’t fit through the aperture.
  • Take bulky items and large boxes to the recycling centre and never leave them next to the containers.
  • If a recycling bin looks full, use another one or take it to another recycling site. There are hundreds of recycling bins in our area. It may be a chore, but it’s vital to help keep our area clean. The Pays de Gex Agglo teams are trying to get the service provider to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
  • Call +33 (0)4 50 40 95 00 for any questions about fob use and billing. Never leave bin bags next to the recycling bin.

The council is taking action and working with communities

Waste disposal facilities (recycling bins, wheelie bins) are appropriate for where they are and help keep the area clean.

The council is working hard with service providers to ensure bins are emptied regularly so they’re ready to use.

Pays de Gex Agglo has an ambitious plan to open recycling centres and now has 4 convenient and efficient recycling centres with extensive opening hours, including Sunday morning. What’s the idea? For every Gex household to be within 10 minutes of a waste disposal solution.

The council is in daily contact with its users and communities reporting fly-tipping. Every report is addressed with appropriate action taken.

Teams from the council are sent out to investigate the report to find and penalise anyone who leaves waste next to recycling bins. The police also give offenders a verbal warning.

The council implemented specific rounds in August 2021 to clean up areas regularly affected by fly-tipping alongside work by community teams. But these measures aiming to keep the waste disposal areas clean aren’t a long-term solution.

Let’s stop it together!

The council and local waste management figures have begun work on a long-term solution*. The idea is to adapt the service to suit resident usage and expectations. Decisions about any potential changes will be made in the next few months.

Doing your civic duty helps prevent these problems that affect the standard of public spaces, disposal areas and quality of life in the Pays de Gex.

As residents, we are all responsible for our actions in the community : we are responsible for managing our waste.

The council and locals are working together to stop fly-tipping.
